Perilous Water Conditions
Getting to the river is just the first part of this daily chore, wading far enough to look for desirable “clean” water is the hard part. This same river is used by local villagers for washing, bathing, toileting and by local wildlife.
It may contain disease causing bacteria, worms and other toxins that cause intestinal diseases, including death in children.
According to UNICEF worldwide 1,400 children die each day from diseases as a result of inadequate access to clean water.
